9th INTERNATIONAL MANGA FESTIVAL KYOTO CONVENTION
Kyoto, Japan | 06-07 September 2008

With the focus on the Kyoto International Manga Museum, Japan's first ever center for manga culture, Kyoto is an active supporter of a manga culture that holds vast potential in a variety of fields, including tourism, industrial development, and the arts. People from the Manga industry, as well as manga artists from around the world are expected to attend the Kyoto Convention, which will be chock full of events, including manga-based international cultural exchanges. With world famous Kyoto, a city that draws nearly 50 million tourists each year, serving as the backdrop, this year's summit promises to be the largest ever.

With the theme, "Environmental Innovation" ( which seems appropriate given that Kyoto was the site of the United Nation's Convention on Climate Change) the convention seeks to boost awareness of sub-themes such as "global warming prevention", "dietary education", and "The 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)", while advocating the passing of the torch of a promising culture to the children and young people responsible for the next generation.

LINGUA COMICA: The 2nd Asia-Europe Comics Project
London, United Kingdom | 20-24 October 2007

In 2007, the Asia-Europe Foundation launched the second installment of the Asia-Europe Comics Project, the LINGUA COMICA project. In partnership with the COMICA Festival London and with the support of the Institute of Contemporary Arts London (ICA), the Goethe Institute London, the Institut Francais London and the Embassy of Japan in the UK, the project focuses on Asia-Europe graphic novels, and with the hope of continuing to build new in-roads to promote awareness, mutual understanding and dialogue on issues of common interest to Asia and Europe. Through these collaborations networks of creators, artists, writers, publishers, editors and commentators engaged in the Asian and European graphic novel medium will be fostered, and encouraged to embark on future opportunities for multilateral Asia-Europe collaborations.
